Business & Economics Pathway & Curriculum

 

At American Valley High School, the Business & Economics pathway is designed to develop analytical thinking, financial literacy, and a strong understanding of how economic systems and businesses operate in the real world. Our program prepares students for success in rigorous academic environments and future studies in fields such as business administration, finance, economics, entrepreneurship, and management.

Curriculum Structure

The Business & Economics curriculum follows a structured progression, allowing students to build foundational knowledge before advancing to more complex economic concepts and practical applications. Courses are aligned with international academic standards and emphasize both theoretical understanding and real-world relevance.

Foundation Level

Students begin with core concepts, including:

  • Introduction to economic principles (supply and demand)

  • Basic financial literacy and money management

  • Foundations of business and entrepreneurship

  • Understanding markets and decision-making

This stage focuses on building economic awareness and developing a basic understanding of how individuals and businesses make decisions.

Intermediate Level

At this stage, students deepen their understanding through:

  • Microeconomics and market structures

  • Business strategy and operations

  • Financial planning and budgeting

  • Introduction to data-driven decision-making

Students are encouraged to analyze real-world case studies, explore business scenarios, and apply economic thinking to everyday situations.

Advanced & College-Preparatory Level

Students may pursue advanced coursework, including:

  • Macroeconomics and global economic systems

  • Advanced business concepts and entrepreneurship

  • Financial analysis and investment basics

  • Case studies and applied economic research

Where applicable, students have the opportunity to take advanced placement-level courses aligned with College Board standards.
